ChickenFacts outlines the latest statistics on the nation’s food basket essentials with a year-on-year comparison for November 2024.
Accordingly to Pietermaritzburg Economic Justice & Dignity Group’s Household Affordabilty Index, the cost of the average household food basket increased by R46,40 (0,9%) from R5 314,63 in November 2023 to R5 361,04 in November 2024.
Zero-rated foods in the household food basket decreased by R3,75 (-0,1%) from R2 859,61 to R2 855,87, while foods subject to VAT increased by R50,15 (2,0%) from R2 455,02 to R2 505,17.
