Food Barometer - Poultry Inflation 2024

The June 2024 Brief on Food Inflation by the Bureau for Food and Agricultural Policy (BFAP) indicates that poultry prices for Individually Quick Frozen (IQF) pieces remains on a downward trend in 2024 following the high prices experienced during late 2023’s Avian Influenza outbreak.

The latest SARS Trade Statistics for June 2024 is out: Total chicken imports (excluding Mechanically Deboned Meat) have risen by 8% year-on-year. This increase is primarily due to a rise in imports of chicken offal’s and chicken carcasses. Total chicken exports have experienced an overall decrease of 4% year-on-year This decline is most pronounced in whole birds and chicken cuts and offal’s fresh/chilled which has decreased by over 20%.
