This week we concentrate on our Alternative Value Chain initiative, during which we will be holding our webinar on Wednesday 17th July to introduce South African small farmers to a new way of growing feed. Our host, Philafeed, will talk about the potential for bringing down feed costs by fly-farming.

One of the greatest motivations for poultry import tariffs has been the narrative that our local farmers are globally uncompetitive without protection. Instead of working on increasing productivity, our large poultry producers ensure profitability through rising prices, including feed. Therefore an active alternative to costly feed can only assist in making our farmers more efficient with access to more affordable feed.

Our weekly Poultry Analysis presents the usual spread of breaking news in the poultry industry, and our latest Import Tariffs and Statistics Fact Sheet confirms the status of our imports. For a good read, also check out Glen McMaster's Insider column. He explores the pressures the poultry industry has been under, and how producers and importers have been coping - with a couple of interesting insights on the future.
